Pinot Brasserie, the French bistro at the Venetian, shuttered quietly on Sunday night. Sitting next door to Daniel Boulud's DB Brasserie at the resort apparently proved too much competition with door-to-door French concepts fighting for guests.

Sources close to Pinot Brasserie reported "that the Venetian has tried to buy out [Joachim] Splichal's lease, but he's not budging until it expires sometime in the next year." Apparently everyone has a price.

Spichal won the best chef California from the James Beard Foundation in 1991. Eight years later he opened Pinot Brasserie when the resort opened. Dishes here included the rosemary marinated quail, Arctic char with braised celery root and Piemontese tortelloni.
