Caroline Rhea Admits Naked Mermaids Shocked Her

We've enlisted comedians, some based here and others who spend their time on the road and come through Vegas, to share their recommendations on great places to dine in Sin City for a feature dubbed Comedian Confidential.

Caroline Rhea takes the stage tomorrow night for Lipshtick, the female comedy show at the Venetian. Rhea, who started her comedy career at the New School of Social Research and trained at the comedy club Catch a Rising Star, has made appearances in The Perfect Man with Heather Locklear and Man on the Moon, the story of the late comedian Andy Kaufman, co-starring Jim Carrey as well as TV shows such as Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and The Drew Carey Show. Here the Montreal native talks about her favorite restaurant and chef in Vegas, her first trip to Vegas and naked mermaids.

How often do you get to Las Vegas?
I actually love going to Vegas. I took one of my best friends to Celine's concert for his birthday and then was pulled from the audience and ended up on stage with Thunder from Down Under, which I'm not sure actually happened or I hallucinated the experience.

Do you remember your first trip to Vegas?
The first trip to Vegas I took there was a lime green Hummer waiting outside and I thought, "I wonder who has that?" and then a driver got out and said, "Miss Rhea?"

Do you have any favorite restaurants you like to visit here?
Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill. We have known each other for ever and I love him and his restaurants. He used to feed the starving artists.

Do people approach you while you're dining out?
Yes, but I am the friendliest celebrity. Fans eventually say to me, "I've got to go."

What about nightlife? Do you ever go out after a show to unwind?
Does Krispy Kreme count?

What was the first thing that shocked you in Las Vegas?
The naked mermaids swimming in a giant tank. I didn't realize mermaids were real before then.

What can we expect at your show?
I hope a great time. I've been doing this for 25 years and I hopefully have a lot of relatable material since I am a mother, former witch and really good blackjack player.
