Chef's favorite Ichiza did it again. The Japanese izakaya at 4355 Spring Mountain Road was shut down Sept. 2 for the ninth time since 2008 by the Southern Nevada Health District with 50 demerits. In June, inspectors shut down the restaurant with 38 violations.
This time, inspectors found spoiled food, staff not properly washing their hands, food unprotected from potential contamination, an inadequate number of hand washing sinks and more.
In 2009, SNHD issued 56 demerits, the most the restaurant ever received. Earlier this year, SNHD inspected the restaurant on June 9 and issued 38 demerits. After a re-inspection on June 30 earning the same number of demerits, SNHD shut the place down.
The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
