Ohio transplants will do a happy dance on Friday when the very first Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt opens in the Southwest.
Youngstown, Ohio, native Patrick Frank, who worked as a VIP host in Las Vegas for nine years, is behind the brand coming to Sin City. Frank wanted to bring a piece of his hometown to Vegas and went with a favorite from his childhood.
Just the flavors that start with "B" include banana, banana cream pie, banana's Foster, black cherry, black raspberry, black raspberry chunk, black walnut, blueberry cheesecake chunk, blueberry cobbler, blue moon, buckeye, butter fudge, butter pecan, butter toffee and butterscotch ripple. Find 48 flavors rotated in and out from 150 different recipes, each made in small batches daily. Four flavors of Handel’s pops — a scoop served on a stick bathed in dark chocolate — come in vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip and a special flavor of the month. Other novelties include a banana split, Hurricanes mixed with candies or other sweets, sundaes, smoothies made with sherbet and fruit, fountain sodas and ice cream floats, malted milk shakes, Boston Coolers with vanilla ice cream and Mug Rootbeer, and the Freeze with sherbet or ice and Sierra Mist.
The first Handel’s in Nevada will be at 10170 W. Tropicana Ave., and the first 100 customers on Friday land a free single scoop cone. The ice cream shop plans to be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
