Former Bar + Bistro chef Beni Velazquez takes over the former Garfield’s space for Latin Fish with views of Lake Jacqueline in Desert Shores. Find a menu that hits on notes of Spanish, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Argentine and Italian cuisines, mostly served as tapas. One signature dish, the paella Velázquez, features saffron rice with baby clams, Mexican shrimp, mussels and more. Saturdays and Sundays bring brunch from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The front of the restaurant is like a Cuban coffee shop and bodega, Republic Cafe, serving savory and sweet pastries and coffees. Then there's the dining area with its red chandeliers that's more formal and frankly a bit romantic. The parlor area with the floor-to-ceiling windows is a tapas-style area and more casual. Also, a patio and a private dining room. Take a look around.
