Rock of Ages, the hair-metal, jukebox musical at the Venetian, will shutter Jan. 2 according to the Sun's John Katsilometes. While an official confirmation is awaited, left unsaid is what will happen to The Bourbon Room, the property's '80s-themed lounge purpose-built as a tribute to the show.
Named after the Sunset Strip club that provides the stage setting for the musical, the lounge also inspired its own beverage menu featuring 28 varieties of bourbon.
Since its arrival in June 2012, TVs have shown non-stop vintage videos from the likes of Poison and Whitesnake and hosted raucous MCs dressed in over-the-top rocker regalia. The hosts worked hard to entertain the crowds and mingle with patrons between choreographed dance sets from the room's costumed performers. Armed with a megaphone, they would also successfully cajole theater-goers as they left the Rock of Ages show and urge them to keep the party rocking at the lounge.
Kats reports the show is looking for another local venue with a current eye on the Rio.
