Remember chef Anthony Zappola? He opened Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steak at the Mirage. Now he’s out on his own with The Rice Shop in the same strip mall as Other Mama on South Durango Drive.
The small eatery features five rice bowls, all shown on a chalkboard menu. Look for a Korean beef short rib with bok choy and cucumber, a Thai shrimp Bayou with black bean gumbo and pickled chili peppers, a mochiko chicken with kung pao broccoli and peanuts, a Kentucky fried shrimp with a hot sauce ailo and barbecue pork belly with honey-mustard kale and sambal. Everything here rings in at $10 or less.
For sides, find leafy greens in creamy miso with sesame, Chinese black vinaigrette or wasabi ranch topping for $4 or pickled vegetables for $3.
The restaurant at 3655 S. Durango Drive (702-889-0468) is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
