Someone sure dropped some dough at Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio. MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren says someone spent $300,000 for dinner at the Jean-Georges Vongerichten steakhouse at the resort in January during the Consumer Electronics Show.
Bloomberg says the big spender was Shane Smith, the CEO of Vice Media. The Vice co-founder “had been on a lucky gambling run,” Bloomberg reports, citing an anonymous source.
MGM spokesman Clark Dumont tells the outlet that 12 people were at the dinner, but that same anonymous source said, “closer to 25” dined at the restaurant.
Murren mentioned the $300,000 anecdote during his quarterly report. “People are starting to spend remarkably here.
“That’s a pretty good check,” Murren said. “We haven’t seen that in a long time. I’m not saying that’s a trend, but to get the kind of cash flow numbers the luxury properties got up and down the Strip, you’re going to have to see that type of abundant spending.”
