Al Mancini heads to Fish N Bowl, the sushi restaurant from former RM Seafood chef Howard Choi in southwest Las Vegas. Head to the chalkboards to find specials including poke tacos, rice bowls and more. He recommends the Double E with eel and shredded sweet egg, rice cakes topped with tuna or yellowtail and rice-free rolls (The Warm Springs with soft-shell crab, spicy tuna, spicy crab, shrimp tempura and avocado; The Rock ’N’ Roll with a cucumber skin around tuna, salmon, snapper, crab stick and avocado; and Tuna Flower with tuna wrapped around a spicy crab, spicy scallop and pomegranate molasses are three of his favorites). Jim Begley checks out the new breakfast menu at Forte European Tapas Bar & Bistro and calls it a way to “sample greatness from throughout Europe.” He recommends the palachinka (a crepe in honey and walnuts) and lángos (“fried dough reminiscent of funnel cake. The Hungarians got it right when they topped theirs with cheese.”). [LVW]
Brock Radke checks out the revamped Radio City Pizzeria. Jake Leslie of The Goodwich, Sean Collins of Rose.Rabbit.Lie., barmen Bryant Jane of Rose.Rabbit.Lie. and Lyle Cervenka of Velveteen Rabbit redid pretty much everything, including the recipe for the New York-style pizzas. He recommends the potatoes “with rosemary, onion ash, caperberries and herbed crème fraîche,” the Kumamoto oysters with “a dash of red absinthe,” and pizzas with “beef heart and basil pesto or pork jowl, chorizo and pickled jalapeño.” [LVW]
