An Australian import lands at Downtown Summerlin today with the opening of Gelato Messina. The company that launched in Sydney, Australia, in 2002 brings more than 40 flavors of gelato along with insane cakes. Find flavors such as salted caramel and white chocolate, apple pie and tiramisu. Dairy-free sorbets include blood orange, passion fruit and chocolate.
Every week, Gelato Messina serves up five special flavors starting with Heisenberg today with blueberry yogurt with crystalized violets; So Wrong It’s Right with cream cheese and caramel gelato smashed with white chocolate potato chips, smothered in duck fat caramel on Tuesday; pecan pie with pecan gelato smashed with pecan pie on Wednesday; Porky’s Revenge on Thursday with maple syrup gelato with bacon maple gel and blueberry pancake batter; and Elvis, The Fat Years on Friday with peanut butter gelato with fried brioche and banana jam.
Some of those Gelato Messina cakes include the Bombe Alaska with raspberry sorbet and chocolate fondant gelato on a bed of flourless chocolate sponge and finished with Italian meringue. Dr. Evil’s Magic Mushroom has a top dome filled with Dr. Evil gelato made from dark chocolate gelato, peanut cookies and dulce de leche. That’s topped with layers of vanilla cream, chocolate sponge, a red ganache and white chocolate buttons. The stalk is filled with dulce de leche caramel surrounded by dark chocolate gelato, and it all sits on grass made from popping candy and crushed biscuit. The Block contains peanut butter and salted caramel gelato on a white chocolate, peanut butter and hazelnut praline base. That’s finished with a white chocolate velvet spray and a peanut chocolate Florentine.
