Rock and roll chef Kerry Simon has quietly shuttered KGB: Kerry's Gourmet Burgers at Harrah's Las Vegas. In February it was announced KGB and Simon Restaurant & Lounge inside Palms Place would both no longer renew their leases, as Simon focuses on his personal medical battle against the onset of Multiple System Atrophy.
KGB debut in July 2010, with room for 156 and designed as a "James Bond-inspired send-up of Soviet-era Russia." Mash-ups of 1960s Russian propaganda posters covered the walls and a hammer and sickle emblem was turned into a chandelier. The KGB gimmick pre-dated Simon, who cannily noticed the acronym could stand for "Kerry's Gourmet Burgers" when approached about fronting the venture.
The restaurant is still promoted on the Harrah's Website, who have yet to announce a replacement. Simon Restaurant & Lounge is scheduled to close on May 22 and will reopen the next day as a Palms-run casual concept.
Simon's Downtown Las Vegas restaurant Carson Kitchen remains open.
