What was Garfield’s and opened as Latin Fish at the beginning of the year is now Isabela’s, the new restaurant from executive chef Beni Velazquez, formerly of Bar + Bistro fame. The restaurant in Desert Shores retains its seafood, tapas and grilled dishes menu of fusion foods and a view of Lake Jacqueline.
So far, the restaurant’s Website doesn’t include menus, but his brief Latin Fish menu included "wild hongos" mushroom pizza, Latin clam chowder, "crispy skin carnitas style lechon" and garlic shrimp mofongo. A vegan tapas section featured tostones, sweet plantanos and stuffed piquillo peppers. Velazquez also had a Bar + Bistro favorite, the Cubano panini, a twist on a Cuban sandwich featuring sliced pork, black forest and Gruyère cheese. It arrives, like many other dishes, with his signature "mojo" mayo or sauce. Seafood dishes included Latin fish and chips, spiced sea bass, Maine lobster tail, Alaskan king crab and Maine whole lobster.
