Tropicana Bar Shut Down for an Imminent Health Hazard

Plus Chopstix Express shuttered with 47 demerits.

Tropicana Coconut Grove Bar at the Tropicana was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District on the eve of the sale announcement for $360 million to Penn National Gaming. The health district shut down the bar on Tuesday, April 28, for an imminent health hazard.

Inspectors found no potable or hot water during their routine inspection.

This is the first time SNHD has shut down the bar since inspections started in 2010.

Chopstix Express Restaurant at 2381 E. Windmill Lane was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection on Tuesday, April 28.

Inspectors found the staff wasn’t properly washing their hands, spoiled food, food unprotected from potential contamination, ineffective pest control measures, single use items reused and more in the 47 demerit inspection.

SNHD shut down the restaurant in 2005 and 2006, in one case for an epidemiological investigation that turned up 48 demerits.

The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
