Work on Pawn Plaza, the two-level, $2 million, 11,708-square-foot retail and dining destination is now moving at a very brisk pace and the building pods have been stacked to reveal downtown's latest tavern and barbecue restaurant.
Sitting in the parking lot of the famous store, Rick's Rollin Smoke BBQ & Tavern is a team-up between Gold & Silver Pawn Shop honcho Rick Harrison and locals Rollin Smoke Barbeque, occupying the prime Las Vegas Boulevard-facing section of this bold experiment.
Eventually 16 tenants will be on site, including Smoke's Poutinerie and Rita's Italian Ice, but work on the top floor, 864-square-foot Pawn Stars-themed tavern is racing ahead. Harrison disclosed to Eater Vegas last month, "I had to go through that whole thing to get my health card and my TAM card just so I can bartend and serve barbecue."
With walls filled with memorabilia and exhibits from Rick's personal collection, the tavern will also serve cocktails named after the Pawn Stars staff.
Looking impressively similar to the pre-construction renderings created by Chesnick Scott Design, the pods have been constructed by locals Xtreme Manufacturing, which also built Fremont East's Downtown Container Park.
The 288-square-foot patio, or "party deck" as they have dubbed it, is also now readying for action, with views of the Gold & Silver Pawn to the north and the Soho Lofts to the south.
The ground floor will be filled by the barbecue restaurant, featuring communal wooden picnic tables and waitresses wearing "Daisy Duke" inspired attire.
Confirming local rumor, Rollin' Smoke BBQ have confirmed on Facebook the Pawn Plaza is aiming to debut over the July 4 weekend.
