Chef Johnny Hernandez isn’t stopping with just one Las Vegas location. The San Antonio chef opened La Gloria in March at the Forum Food Court at Caesars Palace, and now he says he’s about three weeks away from opening his The Fruteria at the Garden of the Gods at the resort.
The name translates from Spanish to “green grocer” and pays tribute to the fruit stands of Mexico. Hernandez serves fresh fruit cups, licuados (smoothies), tortas and tostadas for breakfast and lunch at his San Antonio outpost and Mexican tapas of botanas or antojitos at night. A list of tequilas and fruit-infused cocktails make up the cocktail menu.
My SA reports that Hernandez is already doing some consulting work in Las Vegas and plans to open additional Mexican food outlets here as well.
