Chef Kerry Simon celebrated his 60th birthday at Simon Restaurant & Lounge at Palms Place on Wednesday night just days before the restaurant closes.
Simon is battling Multiple System Atrophy, a debilitating disease with no cure. Friends who attended donated to Keep Memory Alive, the local nonprofit that funds research and treatment of brain disorders like MSA.
Simon’s friends signed the glass walls in the restaurant.
Guests dined on dishes Simon created when he opened the restaurant in 2008. Wok charred edamame, mac and cheese tarts, Iron Chef sliders and candy were on the menu, as was a custom birthday cake made by Gimme Some Sugar that combined elements of his “Rock ‘n’ Roll chef” title and his Iron Chef win.
Simon Restaurant & Lounge, which closes on Friday, May 22, was known for a menu that included sushi, the junk food platter and the Sunday pajama brunch. Diners can eat that brunch for a final time this Sunday, May 17.
