There’s a new Mohawk in town and it comes by way of La Cave Wine & Food Hideaway’s new executive chef. Meet Sterling Buckley, who now runs the restaurant at Wynn Las Vegas.
The Los Angeles native has held nearly every position in the kitchen. “Chef Sterling’s creative spirit, positive energy and dream-big mentality continually inspire his team,” says Morton Group corporate executive chef Billy DeMarco, who promoted Sterling to his new position. “Part of his success is his willingness to do it all, if he has to. But he doesn’t have to do it all because his passion for food preparation as an art form is infectious. He makes everyone feel proud of what they do.”
Buckley joined La Cave in 2010 as a line cook and has quickly worked his way up. Buckley’s culinary experience also includes positions at Michael Mina’s StripSteak at Mandalay Bay, Koi Restaurant at Planet Hollywood Resort and Silk Road at Vdara with chef Martin Heirling, as well as the New Sheridan Chop House in Telluride, Colo., with chef Erich Owen. Buckley received his degree from Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas in 2006.
Buckley’s love of food started as a child when he experimented in the kitchen with his brother while his mother, a singer, performed internationally and his father worked two jobs. “I’m fascinated with the chemistry of food, and how that chemistry affects the relationship on the plate and in the palate,” he says.
