The Mamma's Boy Cafe is back and they have not lost any bravado. Touting "simply the best soul food of the west of Mississippi," the cafe has moved west from their Campus Commons Food Court origins, and is readying to open soon.
Launched in 2013, the concept from owner Tyrone Patterson will be revived on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard with portions large enough to live up to their motto, "we believe in LEFTOVERS."
The menu includes smothered meat bowls over rice, featuring ingredients such as chicken, oxtail and pork spare ribs, plus entrees of fried chicken, pork chops, catfish and sides highlighted by sweet candied yams, collard greens and black-eyed peas. The deserts include sweet potato pie, caramel cake and peach cobbler.
Arriving with the new location will be chitterlings, turkey wings prepared only on Sundays and a smoked barbecue menu including beef hot links.
Scheduled opening times once the place debuts soon will be Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mamma's will be closed on Mondays.
