Those living and working on the east side near the Commercial Center should get excited about the new Arawan Thai Bistro & Dessert, serving modern versions of Thai fare from chef Yanika Bumroongsawad, who has more than 10 years of Thai culinary experience. Arawan is Thai for elephant.

The table-service restaurant serves dishes meant to be shared such as a chef’s special ribeye crispy basil that’s wok-stir-fried with with crispy-fried Thai basil and a crispy lemongrass catfish with cashews and a homemade semi-spicy dressing. Try the short rib yellow curry or the squid-ink drunken noodles with shrimp, squid, cod fish, scallops and mussels wok-stir-fried with black spaghetti.

For appetizers, Arawan recommends the fish cake with a sweet chili cucumber salad or the Arawan fresh roll with shrimp and cucumber, served with peanut sauce and homemade semi-sweet chili sauce.

Desserts here include a lemongrass crème brûlée and mango with sticky rice.
