Sin City is home to a lot of restaurants and bars, but there are tons of hidden gems that the majority of Las Vegans aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's food players to share their recommendations for a ly feature dubbed Dining Confidential. Know a chef who wants to share some top dining spots? The tipline is open.
Robert Henderson joined The Perch at the Downtown Container Park as the executive chef last December. He’s worked at The Bunkhouse Saloon, which he helped re-open, and served as the executive chef at Herbs & Rye and as a sous chef at Stack Restaurant & Bar at the Mirage. The Las Vegas native studied food and beverage management at the College of Southern Nevada. Here he shares three of his favorite places to dine when he’s not working.
Which restaurants do you turn to when you’re not working?
Some of my favorite places to eat are Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Las Vegas, Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse, and Bonanno’s New York Pizzeria.
What dishes are most memorable?
At Mon Ami Gabi’s, there’s a baked goat cheese dish on the hors d’oeuvres menu with tomato sauce and warm herb garlic bread, and it’s just delicious and satisfying.
At Ohjah, I order the variety sushi platters.
At Bonanno’s there’s a New York-style white pizza with roasted garlic, ricotta and great thin crust. I love it.
Why do you enjoy going there?
At all three restaurants, the food is really high quality and the service is always outstanding, which is very important to me.
Another of my favorite restaurants in town is Joe’s Stone Crab at Caesars Palace. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and was reminded of how much I enjoy the atmosphere and the fresh seafood, and the service is always great.
