A 1950s-inspired martini lounge debuts tonight at the Juhl and starts a round of dining and drinking upgrades to the ground floor of the apartment building.

Classic Jewel fills a compact 1,052 square feet and is the brainchild of building resident Jerome Harry, who has bedecked the space with chandeliers, booth seating, a sparkling bar, room for live entertainment and video screens set to show throwback Vegas-style footage.

Classic cocktails are given a modern twist and include the "Pink Cadi" prepared with Patron Citronge and pink grapefruits, the "Mint Jewelep," "The Dandridge," "The Sammy" and the "Sweet Sinatra" built with "red sangria and berries galore." Draft beers include selections from Tenaya Creek and a rotating roster of bottle beers includes brands like San Diego's Ballast Point.

Always designed to showcase live acts, entertainment curator and co-owner Selina Brown will over time incorporate combos, DJs and and naturally, lounge singers into the evening's ambiance.

Still to come at the Juhl and currently under construction, the third local outpost for Greens & Proteins Healthy Kitchen and Vietnamese restaurant Le Phõ.
