Haifa Restaurant, the glatt kosher restaurant that serves Israeli and Mediterranean cuisine as well as sushi and Chinese fare at 900 E. Karen Ave., was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a 17-demerit re-inspection on Monday, June 1.
Inspectors found potentially hazardous foods held at the wrong temperature, food unprotected from potential contamination, ineffective pest control measures and more. SNHD originally inspected the restaurant on Monday, May 18, and issued 27 demerits, a C grade. When a restaurant has too many of the same issues during a re-inspection, SNHD often shuts the restaurant down until those issues are resolved.
The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
