Ben Vaughn just rolled out his new Southern Kitchen food truck this week, and for now the meat and three is showcasing an abbreviated menu as the roving mobile vendor gets its footing.
Vaughn, the host of the Food Network’s Health Inspectors, rolled out his vision of authentic Southern cuisine, with "careful attention to ingredients, smart and accessible ‘people’ food, all mixed with the heritage of the South." John Courtney steps on board as executive chef.
So far, the Hot Chicken — two pieces served with pullman bread and housemade pickles — has garnered rave reviews. "It's a huge craze here in Nashville and throughout the South," Vaughn says.
Already the truck serves fried chicken and collard greens, but look for Southern-inspired dishes such as a meatloaf bahn mi, "a great example of Southern sensibilities mixed with modern flavors and favorites."
Currently, the truck is featuring the already popular Hot Chicken, as well as a pimento cheese BLT, the meatloaf bahn mi, lobster hushpuppies and "a couple other surprises depending on the day."
Head to Top Shelf Liquors tonight from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 6415 S. Fort Apache Road, or follow the truck on Twitter to see where it lands next.
Below, the entire menu that hungry diners can find once the truck is in full-on Southern cooking mode.
