Promising "this ain't your mama's chicken," Arizona's Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles is hard at work to bring their "underground soul food" to the Best in the West retail center.

Lo-Lo's will take over a shuttered 6,099-square-foot Tony Roma's, with Breslin Builders as the design-build team behind the proejct. Confident of a November completion date, the space overhaul features "a complete kitchen remodel, bar remodel, dining room finish changes and addition of a new outdoor patio area."

Creator Larry "Lo-Lo" White opened his first Phoenix location in 2002, which has now expanded to five restaurants, plus an outpost at Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport.

The menu offers their versions of "hood classics," including the "Nay-Nay's" dish of "two delicious waffles, two eggs & bowl of grits" and "Betty's Boob" featuring "one juicy breast & one delicious waffle." Guests getting their "drank on" are assured sweet tea and Kool-Aid are always on tap.

Lo-Lo's repeat guests have included Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Muhammad Ali.
