The former Sammy's Dog House, now named Sammy's L.A. Pastrami & Burgers, was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Located at 2191 E Tropicana Ave., the SNHD discovered 35 violations at the distinctive, small wooden building with the blue roof. Issues included hand-washing, hot and cold running water from an approved source, unwholesome food and effective pest control measures. In March Sammy's earned an "A" grade after an initial "B" grade inspection.
Operating in this location since 2004, Sammy's serves a very casual menu of burgers, wings, fries, and deli sandwiches.
The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
