El Azteca Taqueria & Restaurant at 4518 E. Charleston Blvd. was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a re-inspection on Monday, Sept. 14. The restaurant had received a "C" grade and 31 demerits at its Aug. 19 routine inspection by the SNHD.
El Azteca Taqueria & Restaurant.
SNHD inspectors found improper temperatures for food storage, a lack of protection from potential contamination, improper hot and cold holding equipment and no certified person in charge of the restaurant.
In eight inspections over the last five years, El Azteca had been awarded five "A" grades, but during a May 2012 visit the restaurant narrowly avoided a shut down after earning 40 demerits.
The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
