Originally planned to debut as Fushimi Sushi, Bonsai Japanese Steak & Sushi slipped under the radar and has begun serving at the new scratch-built retail center at the corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Warm Springs Road, already home to Kung Fu Tea and JinJu Chocolates.
The 3,500-square-foot casual concept describes itself as offering "traditional Japanese food with inventive French inspired nouvelle cuisines." The restaurant also features a hibachi table for theatrical cooking displays and are taking pride in inventive dish presentations.
On the menu, soups and salads ranging in price from $1.95 to $8.95 for the "fusion salad" featuring "kani, shrimp, octopus, red clam and Fuji apple," plus teriyaki dishes including salmon and the $25.95 lobster tail, tempura, udon, à la carte sushi or sashimi options and a selection of rolls, like the $10.95 "dancing eel."
Entrees include filet mignon, ribeye steak and halibut and they also create bento boxes served with soup, salad, California roll, rice, shumai and tempura. Smaller bento box deals at lunch are also available.
