Tintoretto Restaurant & Bakery is expanding westward and preparing to include a pricey interior remodel as it grows in size. The casual Italian café is the sister restaurant and adjacent neighbor to Zeffirino, the longest serving restaurant at the Venetian and Grand Canal Shoppes.

The upgrades have a current estimated construction cost of $1.34 million to fund the bakery's push into a vacant spot next door, increasing their size by 1,582 square feet to a new total of 6,639 square feet. Permits indicate the budget will also include interior tenant improvements in their main bakery and market space.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., Tintoretto specializes in quick Italian-styled options, with an emphasis on pastries, cannolis and gelato. All their pastas, bread and desserts are made on site and the café's outdoor seating offers a prime vantage point for people watching and views of the "living statues" who regularly perform directly across from their front entrance. No timetable for the changes has been revealed, but plywood promises "soon."
