12 Things You Need To Know about the Very First Ikea in Las Vegas

Las Vegas lands its very first Ikea on Wednesday, and already the home decor and furnishings store gave super fans a sneak peek inside the 351,000-square-foot store. This marks the first Ikea in Nevada and the 42nd in the United States. Shoppers can find 1,300 parking spaces on the 26-acre plot that sits on the northern side of the 215 Beltway at S. Durango Drive, near Sunset Road. The store hosts Nevada’s largest single-use retail rooftop solar array.

Eater Vegas photographer Amelinda B Lee braved the masses to get a look inside the store from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Already shoppers are lining up to be some of the first to shop at the store. Here’s a look at what they could win.

1. The first 42 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on May 18 will receive a free EKTORP three-seat sofa, honoring the 42nd U.S. store.

2. The next 100 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on May 18 will receive a free POÄNG armchair.

3. The first 100 children (17 and younger) in Ikea on May 18 will receive a free FAMNIG heart-shaped soft toy.

4. The first 2,500 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on May 18 will receive a random prize envelope with Ikea gift cards ranging from $10 to $250, or a "Buy One, Get One Free" cinnamon bun, hotdog or soft-serve frozen yogurt voucher.

5. The first 100 adults (18 and older) bringing proof to Ikea on May 18 that their birthday is the same as the store’s can receive a gift card in the amount of $42.

6. From May 18 through May 22, visitors to Ikea may enter a drawing to win one of 10 $1,000 Ikea gift cards through the Ikea Family loyalty program. Ikea is matching the prizes (a total of $10,000) with a donation to After-School All-Stars, a local organization building the confidence and self-esteem of at-risk youth.

7. The first 42 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on Thursday, May 19, will receive a free queen-sized HAUGESUND mattress.

8. The next 100 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on Thursday, May 19, will receive free warehouse picking and Zone 1 home delivery for purchases on that day.

9. The first 42 adults (one per immediate family) in Ikea on Friday will receive a voucher for a monthly meatball meal for a family of four at Ikea Las Vegas’ Restaurant for the next year.

10. The next 100 adults (18 and older) in Ikea on Friday, May 20, will receive freezer bags filled with five different Swedish meals, complete with beverages and desserts, from the store’s Swedish Food Market.

11. The first 100 children (17 & under) in Ikea on Friday, May 20, will receive a voucher for a soft-serve frozen yogurt available that day at Ikea Las Vegas’ Exit Bistro.

12. Balloon artists, entertainment and face-painting will be on hand from May 18 through May 22.
