Fractured Prune Doughnuts has been a must visit destination in Ocean City, Maryland, since 1976 and is now making good on their long-planned expansion dreams of spreading their East Coast, made-to-order philosophy to the rest to the country.
Fractured Prune is heading to a retail strip at the intersection of Flamingo and Ft. Apache, already home to Sweet Tomatoes and Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. Permits have been filed on the estimated $102,000 construction project and the Prune is promising they are "coming soon."
The company's original location was founded on a plot of land owned by Prunella Shriek in the 19th century, who even into her 70s would compete with men in highly physical sports, earning the the nickname "Fractured Prunella" for her numerous injuries.
The franchise's 27 locations let customers choose their glazes and toppings before the doughnuts are fried and served hot. Each store offers least two dozen custom options, or guests can choose one of their custom creations like the "Black Forest," made with raspberry glaze, mini chocolate chips and powdered sugar, the maple glaze with cinnamon sugar taste of the "French Toast" and their most popular creation, the "O.C. Sand," with honey glaze and cinnamon sugar. There is no prune flavor option on their menu.
