If you are in the mood for Mexican food in the Arts District, later this year you won’t have to walk further than a single block for three different styles and atmospheres.
Wowie Tacos is the latest venture on the horizon, moving into the remodeled Art Haus building just off Charleston on Casino Center. This space languished for over a year as a proposed bar, lounge and speakeasy called The Hawthorne that never came close to getting off the ground.
The two level space will become "a new Taco and Drink Experience like you have NEVER seen before" and is already urging guests to watch to watch major sporting events on their multiple TVs. The taquéria and bar will be operated by California transplant Adrian Perez and is looking at a summer debut.
One block to the west on Main Street, Tacos Huevos from Chris Pike, also a California-based restaurateur, is planning an end of summer, early fall debut for their 1,764-square-foot, quick serve taquéria inside and out of The Corner Building.
The former Corner Store Furniture Co. structure will feature new outdoor seating for the casual spot, with views of veteran Main St. Mexican restaurant Casa Don Juan directly across the street. In business for more than 20 years, Casa Don Juan recently filed paperwork for additions and remodel to its interior.
Rounding out the other close Arts District Mexican menu options, Mingo Kitchen & Lounge a short walk across Charleston and El Sombrero Mexican Bistro further north on Main.
