The restaurant had a pest infestation

Hikari Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar at 4175 S. Buffalo Drive was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection on Friday, July 22, revealed an imminent health hazard.

Inspectors found a pest infestation that called for the immediate shutdown of the Japanese restaurant, and gave the restaurant three demerits for unrestricted animals.

SNHD also issued 25 demerits for commercially manufactured food from an unapproved source, food unprotected from potential contamination and more.

Since 2012, the restaurant earned two B grades and six A grades, so this marks the first time Hikari was shut down by the health department.

The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
