Jung Hoon Kim recently took over the reigns of Inyo Asian Variety Restaurant from Peter Chen and re-branded it as Kushiyaki Inyo. Now his second local venture has debuted, focused on a sweeter side of a menu.
Very Berry Cafe neighbors Yonaka Modern Japanese and the under construction Shang Artisan Noodle at the Flamingo Decatur Plaza. The casual, counter service, 1,200-square-foot space specializes in Korean-inspired shaved ice, made from milk and condensed milk instead of water.
Also featuring panini, salads, wraps and waffles, the desserts are attracting the immediate attention. Customers ordering the $6.99 "snow box" choose a "base," like strawberry, red bean or banana, then two toppings from a broad list including coconut buscuit, animal crackers, Pocky, mochi, caramel popcorn and ChocoPie, then drizzle options, like condensed milk, caramel or organic honey.
Very brightly colored strawberry and mango gelatos are part of range the Cafe is cheekily calling "Pokémon gelatos." They also feature a range of "animal ice creams," crafted into the face of animals and a $11.99 "plant ice cream" that resembles a potted plant.
