A new cocktail lounge headed to Main Street this fall will focus its attention on an audience the operators believe has been long neglected, "the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender black community."

Joining quick serve taquéria Tacos Huevos inside the under construction Corner Building space, The Urban Lounge will fill 1,657 square feet, with a maximum amount of room for 67 and feature 20 seats, a full bar, a kitchen serving "a small menu and family-style dishes" and a compact, 50-square-foot "entertainment zone" for live events.

The main entrance will be created on California Avenue. Unlike their taquéria neighbor, no new patio has been proposed.

Planning to be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. until midnight and Fridays and Saturdays until 3 a.m., Sundays will aim to attract a brunch crowd from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Project manager Nakia Matthews describes the concept via a press release as "upscale," adding, "We knew when creating the concept for the lounge that we wanted to create a safe and fun atmosphere for people to come and be accepted, no matter their race, religion, sexual preference or gender identity."
