Dough Dough’s Hawaiian Cafe & Malasadas has debuted in the northern corner of the Arts District's Gambler’s General Store, replacing the shuttered two-year-old Gambler’s Cafe.
Operating since 2016 in California's Huntington Beach and offering “comfort food favorites of Hawaii,” the breakout menu hit has been its malasadas, deep fried dough coated in sugar and described by the OC Weekly as a “sensation.”
Available as $3 “bites,” $4 “mini” and the $5 “big” sizes, malasada filings are available in any combination of flavors, with customers choosing between cherry, raspberry, apple, guava, pineapple, vanilla, chocolate, coconut cream, lemon, blueberry, cream cheese, apricot, or mango.
A breakfast menu served until 11 a.m. includes $11.25 omelets, burritos, a $9.75 Loco Moco, French toast, and pancakes.
After 11 a.m., the menu adds $10.75 plate lunches served with white rice and “potato/mac salad” and a choice of beef stew, chicken curry, teriyaki chicken or beef, kalua pork, or chili.
Ninth Island favorites include the $8.25 char siu, Portuguese sausage or spam saimin noodle dishes, a $15.75 ahi poke bowl, and hamburger steak bowls, along with a range of sandwiches and burgers, kalua pork sliders and hot dogs.
