Almost five months ago, Tacos El Gordo leaked first word of a move into a purpose-built, new space on the Strip, and now appears that construction appears to be under way.
Currently named Tacos El Gordo Bar & Grill, the new location sits less than 300 feet along Las Vegas Boulevard from its current famed corner spot. The upgrade will take over two former tenants in the Strip-facing retail center and fill 3,458 square feet with more dining room and a bar.
The restaurant filed permits earlier this month, allocating an estimated construction budget of $150,000 for the remodel. An updated arrival timetable has yet to be announced.
And a few steps away, Masala Cuisine of India recently received a temporary certificate of occupancy inside the same building, a sign of an impending debut. The 1,125-square-foot fast casual concept is a sibling to India Masala, located at Fashion Show mall less than a mile to the south. That counter-service menu features samosas and pakoras, curries served with naan and rice and chicken tandoori choices.
