December is traditionally the time when live shows on the Strip and select resort restaurants take a well-earned break, but this year’s extensive program of “winter closures” may prove disappointing to many tourists and locals. Diners are advised to check ahead during the entire month before casually dropping into their favorite restaurant on Las Vegas Boulevard.
Mandalay Bay will be especially quiet for much of December. Currently announced by the resort, chef Charlie Palmer's Aureole will be closed from Dec. 3-4 and then from Sunday, Dec. 10, through Thursday, Dec. 21. Charlie Palmer Steak will continue to serve throughout the month at the adjacent Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas.
Lupo by Wolfgang Puck has already temporarily stopped serving and is planning to return to action on Dec. 29. A few steps away, Red Square will put its vodka lounge on ice from Dec. 13-25.
Fleur by Hubert Keller has halted its lunch menu until Dec. 29 and will also be closed for dinner from Dec. 2 until Dec. 23.
Akira Back’s Kumi Japanese Restaurant + Bar is taking a breather on Dec. 12 and returning on Dec. 22 and above them all on the 64th floor, chef Alain Ducasse’s Rivea is on vacation Dec. 3-4 and then from Dec. 10 through Dec. 21. The adjacent Skyfall Lounge will also be closed on those dates.
