Fans of Saipin Chutima’s northern Thai cuisine only had to wait three months for the award-winning restaurant to make its return. Lotus of Siam shut down on Sept. 11 after its rain-soaked roof in the Commercial Center on East Sahara Avenue collapsed. While the restaurant hoped to reopen in time to celebrate its 19th anniversary in November, construction on the former Roy’s Restaurant location on Restaurant Row on East Flamingo Road took longer than expected.
Breslin Builders renovated the 7,921-square-foot space with a new wall to close off the open kitchen, plus new paint, flooring, equipment, upgrades to the existing bar and the creation of a new wine room in the private dining area to house their extensive wine collection.
The new location offers about half the space of the original in the Commercial Center, where Breslin Builders turns next to spruce up that 17,000-square-foot space by early 2018. Then, both locations will remain open.
Owner and chef Chutima won a Best Chef: Southwest in 2011 for her northern Thai fare. Since 2012, Lotus of Siam had been a member of the Eater 38 as well. The restaurant fell off the most recent version of the list.
