Last Call for Portofino at the Mirage

Updating the future of Italian dining at the resort

Rumors still swirl around the future of the existing dining scene at the Mirage, but one switcheroo now has a confirmed starting point.

Slightly ahead of schedule, Portofino, the Italian restaurant from chef Michael LaPlaca, will shutter after final service on Sunday, December 31 and made available for “meeting and convention events.”

The corner space, located next door to Fin, operated as the popular Onda Ristorante & Wine Lounge until LaPlaca took over in late 2013, re-branding the room and revitalizing the menu.

The resort has since doubled down on the chef, handing over the larger, former home of Samba Brazilian Steakhouse on the casino floor, currently being transformed into Osteria Costa and pushing for an early 2018 debut.

Inspired by the cuisine of the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy, Osteria Costa is being promoted as a “casual reprieve” from the bustling Strip and will feature “wood-fired flatbreads and fresh-baked focaccia prepared true to the Mediterranean style, alongside handmade pastas from Lobster Gnocchi to Ricotta Tortelli and fresh seafood.”
