Las Americas, the Peruvian restaurant at 2319 S. Eastern Ave., was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection on Wednesday, March 15, uncovered 47 demerits.

The health department closed the restaurant for two health hazards, included sewage disposed of improperly and a lack of adequate employee toilets and hand-washing stations even with the demerits, six over the number needed to shut the restaurant down.

Inspectors also dinged the restaurant for food unprotected from potential contamination, ineffective pest control measures and more.

SNHD closed the restaurant in August 2013 as well.

ABC1 Tacos Del Norte, the food truck with a business address at 4181 Pioneer Ave., was shut down by the health department after a routine inspection on Friday, March 17, found two health hazards. The restaurant had no potable or hot water and sewage was not disposed of properly.

This is the first time SNHD inspected the restaurant.

Emerald Island Casino Restaurant at 120 Market St. in Henderson came within three points of being shut down by the health department after a routine inspection on Wednesday, March 15.

SNHD issued 38 demerits after finding spoiled food, food unprotected from potential contamination and unrestricted animals among the violations.

The restaurant has earned A grades since it was first inspected in 2005.

For those keeping track, Gandhi India’s Cuisine and Jukoo Restaurant remain closed. Gandhi was shut down on Feb. 16 after repeated health code violations including a cockroach infestation. KTNV reports that after a hearing on March 9, Gandhi will be allowed to re-open. The Chinese restaurant Jukoo was shut down on Feb. 21.

The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
