For days, Neonopolis owner Rohit Joshi has been eagerly posting Facebook invitations to the "grand opening" of his latest Fremont Street tenant. Featuring an appearance by Mayor Carolyn Goodman, following the 11 a.m. festivities on March 30, The Nerd nightclub will formally take over the shuttered, second floor, Drink & Drag space.
Yet to announce opening hours, or even what to expect inside, The Nerd is overseen by Jonathan Borchetta and his Imagine Adventures Las Vegas company. Borchetta is best known for creating the Voodoo Zip Line attraction at the Rio resort.
Paperwork presented to the City Council explained the 19,665-square-foot nightclub would feature dining, dancing and the return of the dormant 12-lane bowling alley. Deejays or other live entertainment were promised for at least three nights a week.
A promotional cartoon confirms the bowling and cocktails and also hints at old-school, joystick controlled video games. Job applicants had been advised "it will be more than a bar... it's an experience" and they should prepare to be "energetic, fun, great communicators, personable, team players."
