Luckily conceived before the abrupt closure of Du-par’s across Main Street at the Golden Gate, downtown visitors looking for a diner-style menu can now head over to Brightside Breakfast & Burgers at the Plaza.
Located on the casino floor, inside the former Island Sushi & Hawaiian Grill, Brightside also caters to visitors seeking a meal on a budget, or unwilling to indulge in the famously huge portions offered by close neighbor Hash House A Go Go.
Featuring an interior self-described as "reminiscent of an authentic New York style deli," customers can sit in booths, at the central tables, or at the long diner counter. A grab-and-go option has been created right by the front entrance.
On the menu, breakfast sandwiches, like the $8 turkey, ham or Spam selections topped with egg and cheese and a $10 smothered Southern chicken variant. The "too big for a bun" choices include a $9 avocado toast, the $10 "Brightside Benedict" and a "French toast panini." Burgers range in price from $7 to $9 and the most expensive item tops out at $11 for an "ahi tuna steak on a roll."
"Old school crinkled fries," house made onion rings and tater tots can be added to the side, plus a $5 "Downtown Chili" or matzoh ball soup. Inside the deli case, familiar favorites like a bagel, smoked salmon and cream cheese, pastries, yogurts and salads.
