Ranked number four in an Eater National survey of 2015’s "Craziest Ice Cream Novelties," the "puffle," a filled puff-pastry waffle sensation, is headed to downtown Las Vegas.
Reno’s Puffles will debut its version inside its "new school gelato" outpost later this year, taking over the shuttered ChillSpot by SasaSweets on the Container Park’s ground floor.
Run by Jordan Hastings and chef April Woodward, the Nevada spin on a Hong Kong street treat delivers "puff-pastry pockets, filled with savory or sweet delights, baked on a waffle iron."
Among the flavors already tested by the team are chocolate orange, California chicken, peaches and cream and ham and cheese. Reno’s Gas Lamp restaurant features the creations as a base for its chicken and waffles dish.
As a dessert, the "puffle" has been described as "bubble wrap" for its very distinctive look. The eastside’s Itea Boba and Dessert began serving its own version in a cone last year.
Now hiring, no timetable for Puffles arrival has been announced.
ChillSpot debuted in late 2013, serving up liquid nitrogen ices, ice creams, sorbettos and their own frozen SasaPops. In January of last year, brother and sister operators Joe Vergara and Liza Vergara-Grossthey expanded one floor above with Stoned N Baked, serving up pizza, brownies and "munchies." The casual spot was recently removed from the Container Park’s online roster of tenants and its website has also expired.
