If you’d read that chef Gio Mauro’s new pizza concept was debuting in April, you’ll need to rethink your plans. Pizzeria Monzù has only just begun serious construction work inside the former home of locals’ favorite Nora’s Italian Cuisine. Maru is one of three sons of the namesake restaurateur Nora and father Gino.
Last September, after more than 25 years, the Nora’s team upgraded from their compact, strip-mall home to a purpose-built 6,898-square-foot restaurant, located a very short 900 foot distance along Flamingo Road.
That has left the 4,522-square-foot location in the hands of chef Mauro, who will be turning the space into a pizzeria. The estimated construction bill of $112,146 for the makeover will also create a new mezzanine.
Mauro still operates the casual counter service Old School Pizzeria in North Las Vegas on Craig Road, but this new venture will be a more elevated experience, large enough to host a maximum occupancy of 98.
Mauro was the former operator of Nora's Wine Bar & Osteria in Boca Park and he is currently behind the menu of the two Dallas outposts of Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar from Mooyah co-founder Rich Hicks. A revised opening date for Pizzeria Monzù has yet to be announced.
