Two New Restaurants Head to Fremont East

Two shuttered downtown ventures have replacements well on their way to opening day.

Yet to be announced, Jeff Thomas, the executive chef at Donut Bar inside the John E. Carson Hotel commercial development, is expanding literally around the corner. His new concept Smooth Eats will take over the Grass Roots Juice Bar, next door to Bocho Sushi. A temporary web page only hints that he will be serving "fresh food" and smoothies.

Grass Roots shuttered in June of last year, when partners Shane Stuart and Nichole Hester went their separate ways. Stuart has since opened Panacea in Boca Park. No timetable for the arrival of Smooth Eats has been posted.

And a short walk down Carson Avenue, the former home of Zydeco Po-Boys reveals Two Bald Brothers - Mediterranean Cuisine is keeping true to its promise of “coming soon.” The casual project created by Yitzhak Maydan and Roi Klein has yet to post a menu, but will be serving shwarma and shakshuka. The restaurant is a quick turnaround for the space after Zydeco Po-Boys shuttered in March of this year.
