Tacos El Gordo already operates three outposts ins Las Vegas, but it's the Strip location, a short walk from Wynn, that has earned a fervent fanbase and cult status as a legendary late-night stop.

Now comes confirmation the very informal spot will be closing later this year when its lease is up, prompting the company to upgrade and improve at its next destination.

Tacos El Gordo will be moving less than 300 feet to the north along Las Vegas Boulevard, taking over two souvenir stores and a shuttered tattoo studio.

The new 3,558-square-foot bar and grill is technically calling itself a supper club, offering much more room for future guests. A timetable for the construction or closing of the current location has yet to be announced.

Tacos El Gordo served at its present home from 2011 until 2014, before a reported landlord dispute forced the restaurant out. In a surprise move, it returned to the still vacant space in late 2015. On the menu, authentic Tijuana-inspired street food, featuring ingredients such as suadero, adobada, tripa, buche and cabeza. The brand still operates downtown at 1724 E. Charleston Blvd. and 3260 Losee Road in North Las Vegas.
