A New York-style slice, or a Chicago deep dish are easier to find in Las Vegas than the rectangular, Detroit approach to pizza. Locally, Northside Nathan's Pizza is the best-known destination for serving up traditional, cheese on the bottom, sauce on top and crisp on the edge pies.
Newcomer Toppled Tortoise Pizzeria is now serving its own spin on Detroit deep dish, in an unusual spot inside Henderson’s day-glo King Putt mini-golf attraction.
Located inside the retail center at the intersection of Stephanie Street and Paseo Parkway, on the menu, salads including the “arugula gorgonzola” and the “Skinny Tortoise” with "homemade Italian dressing."
The Tortoise's pizzas, are designed to feed “one super hungry monster of of an eater, or two normal people (perhaps with an appetizer.)”
Prices begin at $16 per pie and include a Sicilian, the "Buffalo Burrow” with white and dark meat chicken, a “veggie mountain” a “classic white” and the “Atomic Stinger,” built “with imported Italian spicy Sopressata salami, spicy Calabrese peppers, local organic Death Valley honey, and mozzarella. (No sauce.)”
