Australian import Gelato Messina quietly spent the final days of June shuttering its two-year old, high-end ice cream store at Downtown Summerlin. Via Facebook, the company revealed, “this was our first crack at opening in the US but a few things just didn't pan out as we expected with the Vegas spot.”
The corner location on Festival Plaza Drive featured a creative mural tribute to the neighborhood by New York-based Australian artist Jeremyville. But Messina will not be searching for a follow-up Las Vegas home, instead it is “actively looking for spots in LA which we hope to open at in the not too distant future.” Fellow Aussies, Ribs & Burgers, also departed Downtown Summerlin for Southern California, back in March.
Fans of less elaborate frozen treats can still head to CREAM Summerlin, one block to the north. SkinnyFats will shortly be filling the vacant Ribs & Burgers space.
Launched in Sydney, Australia, in 2002 Gelato Messina placed an emphasis on quality ingredients, a menu of more than 40 flavors of gelato and inventive cake designs.
