The Southern Nevada Health District shut down Las Americas at 2319 S. Eastern Ave. after a routine inspection on Wednesday, July 26. SNHD issued 46 demerits to the Peruvian restaurant, including two imminent health hazards for a pest infestation and sewage or liquid waste disposed of improperly.

Inspectors also found spoiled food, food unprotected from potential contamination, improper hand washing, ineffective pest control measures and more.

This marks the fourth time SNHD shut down the restaurant since 2005, including two other closures in 2017.

The health department also shut down Sin City Wings after a routine inspection on Sunday, July 30, revealed an imminent health hazard, inadequate refrigeration. The 28-demerit C grade also unearthed potentially hazardous foods held at the wrong temperature, food unprotected from potential contamination, ineffective pest control measures and more.

SNHD shut down the food truck in 2014 and 2016 as well.

The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
