The Broken Yolk Café has been serving breakfast and lunch in very generous portions since 1979 and following prominent coverage on the Food Network and the Travel Channel, evolved into a very popular tourist destination in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. A franchiser since 2009, the brand now heads to Las Vegas with its first location in a new development that will be constructed at Town Square.
Dubbed The Landing, the new dining and retail hub will sit flush with Las Vegas Boulevard, close to Fry’s Electronics store and the recently debuted Total Wine & More. Still awaiting the start of construction, the two=building center will also include a Cafe Rio Mexican Grill and the fifth expansion for locals Sweet Poke.
The center is also expected to host at least one more full-service restaurant and still has room for other fast-casual tenants. No timetable for completion has been announced
The Broken Yolk currently requires franchisers entering a new territory like Las Vegas to commit “to build three or more stores over a designated period of time,” but future locations have yet to be revealed.
On the the menu at its 20 locations, Benedicts, omelets, pancakes, crepes, burgers, sandwiches and the “BYC Challenge,” a dozen egg omelet “filled with mushrooms, onions, American cheese and smothered with our chili and more cheese. On the other half of a 15-inch pizza pan is a generous pile of homefries and two biscuits.” Guests who finish the dish within an hour receive a commemorative T-shirt.
